San Rafael Swell
- Buckhorn Wash -
Today was such a fun for all of us to spend together, just our cute little family. With it being Easter weekend and the week of spring break, we knew we wanted to go on a picnic somewhere together. I had food and treats all made and ready to go and so once we were up and ready to go, we just started driving. It snowed a bit this morning at home, so we knew we had to go find warmth or somewhere where the snow did not fall.
Jeremy decided to take us on a road trip down to the San Rafael Swell. This ended up being a lot of fun and amazingly there were a lot of people that had the same idea we had. We first stopped at the picnic area and ate lunch the San Rafael Bridge. This was interesting to see the history of the last swinging bridge left in Utah. Although this bridge is still not currently used to cross the river, it stands as a piece of history.
Trey, Ally, and Lottie brought a whole new meaning of swinging bridge today. They had fun swinging from the big cables from the bridge.
It was quite a ride in the truck, luckily Trey brought his selfie stick and we were able to catch some cute pictures. Don't ask what Lottie is doing with a doll binky in her mouth, like I say so often, she is one of a kind and is always there to put a smile on our faces.
After our picnic and hanging out at the swinging bridge, we drove to where there was a wall of pictographs. Jeremy has always had such love for this type of history and it is fun to see that same interest in our kids. Each of us enjoyed talking and discussing the history behind so many of these pictographs on this wall.
After the pictographs, we kept driving until we saw a cave a ways off the road that the kids wanted to hike. It was quite large and interesting to see the dark charcoaled walls. It would be so fun to know the stories of this cave to who stayed here in the long winters so many years ago.
Up high and not marked as a stopping point, is the name of 'Mat Warner - Feb 17 1920' written on the wall. This guy was Butch Cassidy's friend that hid out in this area back almost 100 years ago.
I can see why so many people were down here the same day we were, the scenery is amazing.
Jeremy knew somewhere down here was a dinosaur track. I think this is what the kids were most looking forward too. We drove and the more we drove, Jeremy knew we were getting closer, he just didn't know the exact spot. It is a track that isn't marked, so you would have to know that it is there to know to stop. We drove around a bend and there were people parked everywhere. We thought that everyone was stopped to see the track, but come to find out they were there watching rock climbers. There were a few people coming and going from the dinosaur track, but luckily the traffic led us to the spot. It was covered with rocks when we got there, so we pulled those away. Pretty amazing view and I would be so fun to know the history behind this spot too!
Last but not least, we had to go find a spot to roll some Easter eggs. There were so many people that we had to go find our own little hill to roll some eggs. Once that spot was found, Jeremy and the kids made the perfect trail to roll their eggs. Between tunnels and some speed bumps, they made it pretty fun to watch all those eggs roll down. Ally rolled the same egg down I bet a dozen times; it was that smooth of ride for the egg down this nice trail. Trey made the trail so it would roll between two rocks and fall into a nest of sand. He pampered that nest so the eggs wouldn't take any hurting to them. We seriously could have done this all day. The kids ran up and down that hill to roll their eggs that we got to the point that we had to mix it up. So near the time to go, we challenged them to put all their eggs at the starting point and race them all down at once. The kids just laughed and giggled and wanted to do it again and again. It was so fun and pretty entertaining to say the least!
It was such a fun filled day together, this definitely is how memories are made. The kids had a ball and can't wait to do something like this again. Can I say how much I love these peeps, they mean the world to me!
