~ Our California Vacation ~

- Day 1 ~ Las Vegas, Nevada -

Two cars, eleven people, miles and miles to go, lots of pictures to be taken, and so many smiles and memories to be made, so . . .  California here we come!!!!!

This trip has been in the works since September 2012 and February 2013 seemed like a long ways away for everyone.  But the day has finally arrived, we had our bags packed and we were all set to go!  Needless to say, our kids were more than jumping for joy to finally be going!

We started packing our bags days before and had the car all packed by Saturday night.  Sunday morning arrived and we went to our block meeting of church.  The kids were determined that this would be the longest three hours of church that they had ever sat through.  Little did they know, the three hours flew right by and we were on the road before we knew it.  We finally got out of town at 1:00 and picked up Eric, Jen, and Maddie at the Busk's house in Richfield.

Once we got on the road from there, it finally hit us that this was real and not just a dream!  We stopped in Cedar City and ate lunch at Cafe Rio', from here we went to St. George to see Papa Joe in the hospital.  He just had heart surgery and it was good to see him doing so well.  And at last, we were all loaded up and finally headed to Las Vegas!

It was after 7:00 pm when we finally made it to downtown Vegas.  We thought that rather than walking the strip with all the kids, that letting them see all the lights from the car would suffice them.  So it ended up working great for them, it was dark which gave them a chance to see the Vegas lights.  We then drove straight to the Sunset Station, where we checked in for our nights stay!

Once the cars were all unpacked and we were all checked into our rooms, the kids decided they wanted to go bowling.  Sunset Station has a nice bowling alley, with forty plus lanes.  Between the 11 of us, we decided to have two teams and two games.  The kids definitely had an advantage over us big people, because we were able to put bumpers up for them so they were able to score really well.

Bowling was fun for everyone, even little Lottie.  She managed to find the hand blower on the ball return machine, and would keep herself entertained with nice cool breeze blowing from the fan.  She ended up getting her second wind and would not sit or even stand by us, so Jeremy and I decided to take Allyson and Lottie back to the room.  Eric, Jenna, and Maddie had also left early because Maddie wasn't feeling well.  So this left McKenna, Trey, Rod and JoAnn to finish the games.  Grandpa Rod, of course won with a score of 218.  To celebrate, the four of them went to Fat Burger for some yummy milk shakes and a jumbo hamburger with fries to share.  What a fun way to start our trip!
