This year we decided that instead of carving our pumpkins on the night before Halloween like we have done years past, we all voted on doing it tonight. And boy are we all glad that we did! It was a fun enjoyable night for all. With four carvings to get done, we knew the earlier we started, the better. Plus, it worked out so we could have them lit up each night leading to Halloween!
Pumpkin carving at our house has turned into be quite the creative carving party. Thank goodness for Pinterest, because this year, all four kids spent time looking at all the different ideas before they decided what they would create. Jeremy is always so good about getting everyone going. He cuts the tops off and then it is up to each kiddo to clean out the pumpkin guts. I always love watching their first reaction as they reach down to get that first glob of yuck, but without complaining, they all take charge of their own pumpkin and clean it out completely.
One of the best part of pumpkin carving is watching the kids help each other out. Ally and Lottie had little pumpkins this years, so luckily their scrapping out the guts didn't go on forever. Especially when Trey and McKenna were so willing to help get the final scrapings off the sides.
When the clean out process is over, then comes time for the true carving. Jeremy will draw out the design and then carve away. The kids love watching him as they watch their pumpkin come to life! It was fun for us to have Grandma Loraine, Grandma JoAnn, and Darcy here to visit and hang out with while the carving went on.
Once the main part of Trey's pumpkin was carved, he was in charge of scrapping the main skin off the teeth of his pumpkin. This definitely gave the pumpkin a whole new look and feel.
Allyson was so proud of her Minnie Mouse. She was pretty cute in the beginning, she had found three different pumpkins she liked how they were carved off of Pinterest. So she made me write her three favorite down so she could remember to show her dad what she liked, and then she left it up to him to pick for her. (You have to understand that she is a note taker and expects everything to be written down, for fear she will forget! Ya right, like she will forget!) Her three options were Minnie Mouse, Tangled, and Hello Kitty. Pretty cute Minnie Mouse!
When Ally and Lottie were done carving, out came the markers for more creativity. They had marker everywhere, from their pumpkins clear up to their elbows. Oh well, they loved every minute of it!
By the time it was McKenna's turn to carve, Jeremy decided to turn McKenna and I loose on hers. She thought where her pumpkin was big and Lottie's was little, that it would be fun to have theirs be a cat and mouse combination. So with a pencil and a paring knife, we went to work to create McKenna a cat. I have to admit that it turned out pretty cute!

The kids were pretty excited on how well they turned out!
Can't have a photo session without taking one of the kids pulling their funny faces. Sometimes I don't even have to ask, it just comes natural.
This picture of Lottie cracks me up! I was outside trying to take a picture in the dark, with only the lights being the glow from the pumpkins. I barely could see Lottie when she came outside, so I told her to stand next to the pumpkins and I would take her picture. Well, I luckily had my flash on, so I ended up catching this Kodak moment of her posing for the camera. Pretty priceless.
Look at those happy faces! What a fun memorable night!
