Scouting

Fire Safety Pack Meeting

Pack Meeting tonight ended up being a pretty exciting night for Trey.  He, of all the scouts, was the only one to receive an award.  Trey was presented with his Bear Scouting Award and to make it even more exciting was the fact I received the mother's pin for this award.  He was pretty proud to be awarded this for all his hard work in scouts.

As part of the program and since the theme of the pack meeting was Fire Safety, each of the boys were able to present their poster that they made that week in scouts to the audience.  Trey drew a picture of our house with people trying to escape a fire.  The fire department likes to keep these poster to hang up in the fire stations, so Trey decided to donate his to be hung up for others to see.

The best part of the night was seeing Trey getting dressed up in the fire fighter attire.  Rohn Peterson, the Assistant Fire Chief for the Gunnison Fire Department, was there to talk to the kids and adults about fire safety.  He started by talking with the kids about the importance about not playing with matches and lighters.  Then he talked about what firefighters do when they are called out on a fire.  He had his fire gear there and picked Trey to come up and get dressed up in the all the gear.  Trey said that the clothes were really heavy and hot.

Afterwards, everyone was able to get a tour of the fire station, which gave the kids a great one on one chance to see all the different types of fire engines.  The kids were all really excited to sit up in those big trucks and see all that those big trucks can do.

What a fun night to learn of fire safety.  Our kids had so much fun seeing and being at the fire station.  What a great experience for kids to see!

This was a proud mom moment.  I am so glad Trey loves to participate in scouts and works hard to complete so many achievements to earn these fun awards.  Good Job Trey!
