Football Semi Final Game

So today was the big game that we have all been waiting for all season.  We played Manti earlier in the year and lost to them 21 to 0.  It was actually their second game of the season and it was a tough loss for these boys to start out their season.  So going into today's game was all about sweet revenge!  The Gunnison boys were going in as the 3rd place team and Manti was going in as the 2nd place team, so we knew it would be a tough game! 

 

 

The Gunnison boys played their hardest, in fact they held the Manti team from scoring at all.  There were a lot of close calls, but with a tough defense, they were able to keep the Manti team from scoring.  With only one minute left in the fourth quarter, the Gunnison offense was able to get the ball to Jack Hansen and he run a touchdown to get us on the scoreboard.  It was pretty exciting and the crowd was cheering and yelling out of pure excitement.  The Manti team had a 45 seconds to get the ball to the other end of the field.  That's one thing in football, 45 seconds doesn't seem like a long time, but really with the clock starting and stopping, 45 seconds can go on for 5 minutes.  So even though there was only a seconds left in the game, it sure would have given Manti time to score to either tie up the game or win with their extra point.  Manti's offense was about at the 50 yard line and threw the ball and Gunnison's defense was able to intercept the ball to stop them, which resulted in an awesome win for the Bulldogs!  We were so proud of these boys, they did a great job today in defeating Manti.  Even to make this a sweeter victory was the fact that Gunnison has not beat Manti in football in the last 20 years, so for this little 6th grade team to break history was pretty awesome!
