Hunter's Education

Every Wednesday night for the past six weeks, Trey and McKenna have been attending a Hunter's Education course at the elementary school.  If either of these two decide they ever want to put in for hunts in the future, it is required that they pass this course in order to obtain their blue card.
So they have faithfully gone and learned all about gun safety in the course of six weeks.  On top of school homework, they have also had to study and do weekly homework for this course too!

For their last class, they had to pass a written test with 50 questions on the material that they have studied and then they had to pass the shooting test in order to complete the course.  Both Trey and McKenna did well at both sections.  They barely passed the written test, which a lot of it boiled down to each of them being in too big of hurry to really read and answer the questions properly.  However, when it came to the shooting part, they both did awesome.

Saturday morning, before we went out to the gun range for their shooting final, we drove out west of Gunnison so they could practice shooting.  For their final, they had to shoot 10 rounds laying down, kneeling and standing, so this practice worked out to be very beneficial and definitely paid off when it came time to shoot for the read deal.

Jeremy had to show them how it was done and of course, it wouldn't have been the same with out Ally and Lottie cheering them on!  Plus, the little girls and I had fun exploring around at all treasures left by people while the kids did their shooting.

When it was finally noon, we headed out to the Gunnison gun range for their final section of the course.  There were a lot of students taking this course, plus both of them wanted to shoot Trey's .22, so we had to patiently wait for our turn to shoot.  McKenna went first and did an awesome job.  Trey was in the last section to shoot and he did an awesome job as well.

In order to pass the shooting test, they had to shoot 15 plus shots at least in one section of their target.  As you can see from their targets that is was a job well done!
Pictured below are McKenna and Trey showing off their final targets

Great Job guys!  You are now official blue cards holders!

As a side note to this post and one funny thing that we like to give Jeremy a bad time about is that when Jeremy went to Ace Hardware to buy the Hunter's Ed Registrations Certificate for each of the kids prior to the class, he needed to fill out their names, birthdates, etc.   He brought home the certificates for each of the kids to sign, McKenna instantly picked her card up and asked, "Who is McKenna Dawn?"  Jeremy quickly  responded back by saying, "Isn't that your name?".  We all busted up laughing, especially when McKenna told him that we call her more by her middle name of 'Jo', even more than McKenna.   Definitely one thing Jeremy will never live down!
Now we hope that her blue card reads McKenna Jo and not McKenna Dawn!
