This year's May Day program was so cute. Each grade performed to songs that came from the 1950's, so it was so fun watching each class as they performed to their specific oldies song.
Ally and her classmates all danced to the song, 'One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater'. Because they have been learning the dance for the past several days, she has been coming home from school all excited about the dance and anxiously singing the song. She has been so excited to perform, that when today finally arrived, she was up and ready to go really early today for school. She looked so cute and did such an awesome job at her first May Day dance.
Trey and the rest of his 4th grade classmates performed to the song 'Hand Jive' while dancing with the ribbons for the May Pole. The May Pole is always the very first performance on May Day, plus it is one performance that every elementary school student looks forward to. Each fourth grader had the opportunity to spray paint their own t-shirt as part of their costume. Mrs. Arleen Jensen's class were assigned to one of the four May Poles. We thought it was pretty fun that Trey was able to dance to his good friend Kennedi Knudsen. These two have been good friends since the first grade and so both of them had smiles on their faces that they couldn't seem to wipe off for this side by side performance. The best was seeing their t-shirts for the first time when they turned their backs to us and both of them had the number three spray painted on the back. Trey and his friend Shea, pretty much did their shirts identical to each other, yet they could not figure out why Kennedi and Emma Stewart would do the number three on their shirts too. Go figure, those girls kind a like the boys!
Another part of May Day was when the first through fifth grades sang several songs together as an entire school. All the kids took this part pretty serious and knew their songs really well. Because the kindergarten kids are not in school all day, they are not taught these songs, so it was cute to watch them listening to the other students.
Just a quick picture of each of the kids after their performances. Ally had to wear levi shorts, her hair in a pony tail, and a white shirt for her performance. I have to admit, Ally Dawn you are so darn cute! Way to rock your first May Day!
Trey man, showing of his cool May Day shirt. You can tell he had put a lot of thought into what he was going to do as his design for his shirt. There were days he would draw his ideas on paper and show them to me to see if I had any other ideas for him to add. I thought he did a great job and was pretty creative in his design. The only reason for the number three on the shirt is because it is a number that Trey and Shea decided that they like to put on their baseball jerseys.
What a fun, memorable May Day!
