This year for Mother's Day, I was fortunate to spend the majority of the day with my own mother. Grandma O was at the University of Utah Hospital in recovery from back surgery earlier in the week. She was supposed to be released on Thursday, but because she ran into heart complications, they kept her admitted to the hospital. It was late Saturday evening when my mom called and said that she was going back into afib and about the only way to try and settle it was to put her under to shock her heart. My dad was home in Salina and so he was rushing up to be with her. I was worried and pretty emotional and decided that I didn't want by dad to be alone when they took her for the procedure. He has been there a time or two himself, and I knew he was upset about thinking my mom would be put in the same position. I therefore, decided to pack my bags and head north to be with both of them. I was so glad I was there with them. Luckily, the doctors didn't need to do the procedure, she was able to maintain a regular rhythm once we got there.
My dad went and found a room near the hospital to stay so I could spend the night with my mom. We stayed up for quite a while talking and laughing. It was really good for my mom to see my mom smile, she definitely needed a good laugh. Neither one of us got a lot of sleep that night, between continuous interruptions from the hospital staff, but every time my moms heart went out of rhythm, the machines in the room would beep, so I was worried and stayed up to watch that.
Sunday morning finally arrived and we were up and ready for a new day. My dad showed up and took me to breakfast for my Mother's Day. He also brought me this delicious white cake with red raspberry filling, plus lots of frosting. I helped my mom with therapy, trying to get up and walk for the first time since surgery. I was able to also help her fix her hair, the first it had been really combed through since surgery. Finally after lunch, she was ready to rest, so I headed for home.
It was so fun to spend this time with my mom. Not very often do I get to have one on one time with her anymore because I usually have a kid or two with me. We had some fun laughs and it was really good for me to be with her, especially on this Mother's Day.
I made it home and was greeted by the four reasons why I celebrate Mother's Day. I love these four kids more than anything. They each had their own little gift that they presented me. In my opinion, it is the homemade gifts that mean more than the store bought gifts on days like today. They had made cards / gifts in school that they were so excited to give to me. And then later that evening, I was treated to a special tea party. Allyson, being the initiator here, set up the table with treats in her bedroom to allow all of us to be treated. Trey was her assistant in getting the final preparations ready for our big shin dig. Have to say it was pretty neat to know this was all put together just for me!
I look at this cute little family that I have and I consider myself the luckiest mom in the world. I love them all so much. I am thankful everyday that my Heavenly Father has blessed me with so much! I strive to be a better person and mother because of them.
And last but not least, I am so thankful for Jeremy. He is my rock and strength. I don't know where our family would be without his whitty personality and love for each of us. I am grateful that we are able to share the joys of parenthood together! Love you!
