GVES Reflection Contest

Every year, our kids have always looked forward to participate in the elementary school's reflection contest, sponsored by the PTA.  This year's theme for the reflections was
 "The World Would Be a Better Place If . . . ".

Early December the projects were due to be turned into the school for the preparation of them to be judged.  A panel of judges were put together and each project was judged based on their creativity and the interpretation of the theme.

I volunteered to be the chairman over the Reflection Contest, so it was fun to see all of the kid's artwork, stories, musical renditions come in as their interpretation of this years theme.  After each project was judged, I tallied all the scores and was able to pick the top winners in each division.  I am proud to say that Trey's picture that he drew won 1st place in the Intermediate - Visual Art division.  His interpretation of the theme is that the world would be a better place if we recycled.  On his picture he drew garbage out in the woods with three tall trees in the background.  He then described his picture as if we recycled, we would be able to save more trees in our forests.  Winning this division means that his project has gone on to be judged on the Region level of all the local schools in his age group, that is why I do not have him holding his artwork.  I was able to present the trophies to kids at an assembly for the whole school.  The group picture above shows all of the kids that won in their category and all of their projects too went on to compete at the Region.

Allyson was excited because her project won Honorable Mention in the Visual Arts Category - Primary Division.  Her project scored really well against all of the other artwork in her age group, however she did not score enough points to advance to region.  She was still pretty excited to bring home her very own medal and show it off with her cute picture she drew.

Way to go Trey and Ally, we are so proud of you!  I am so glad that you both have a love for drawing and that it is something that you like to work hard to do!
