Well, it wouldn't be Easter if the wind didn't blow and today was no different. We spent the entire afternoon eating, hanging out with family, and fighting the wind. But when you look at it this way, isn't that how memories are made? I mean this year, the wind blew the neighboring picnics pellets from their pellet guns over to our campsite. One hit Jeremy on the side of the head and then when one hit Grandpa's trailer, and only the wind was helping these pellets travel our direction.
The picnic turned out great, we all chipped in and helped bring separate dishes to make the meal complete. Grandpa O had slaved over a dutch oven all morning cooking his finger licking good chicken; the secret seasoning made this chicken a hit. In fact, Allyson almost licked the chicken leg bone clean. She was funny as she finished her piece of chicken up and ask me, "What part of the chicken's body did you get to eat?"
After we ate and cleaned up, the guys got a game of horse shoes put together. In the meantime, us girls hid the candy filled Easter eggs. It was nice to just sit and hang out together.
It wasn't long before all those eggs were hid and the kids were ready to go on their hunt. We had all of them line up getting ready for someone to yell go!
I like the above picture of Alyssa, why did she put her bucket on her head?
And they are off . . . .
After the kids found all of the candy filled eggs, we let everyone have a chance at rolling the real eggs down the hill. As you may know, there really isn't much rolling going on, it usually ends up with the adults playing catch. They of course split up so some are on top of the hill and a few at the bottom. You have to be careful regardless of where you stand because there are eggs coming and going from all directions! Just ask Porter, he was nailed in the head with an egg, funny thing was though, this egg was raw. No one wants to fess up to who brought raw eggs all colored ready to roll, but it sure made for a lot of laughs.
This year's Easter picnic was so fun. Yes the wind blew, but a few hours spent like this is more fun and worth all the dirt and dust. We left feeling like we had been camping for a week, but who cares, this is how memories are made. It has been several years since we spent Easter with the Okerlund's so needless to say, it was a memorable one. We were only missing Oakley and Brynn, so that's pretty good turn out from everyone else.
Family is everything to me. I feel so grateful to call to all of these fine people FAMILY. I love each one of them so much and I am blessed to have them in my life! Pretty cute nieces and nephews wouldn't you say?
