We had a fun-filled weekend ahead of us planned and everyone of us were looking forward to it. Ally, Lottie, and Trey were all up and ready to go before 8 so they could attend the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the City Park. We luckily lined up as soon as they blew the whistle, so it was a quick hustle to gather up what goodies you could before the tons of other kids there fighting for the same thing.
As an added bonus to the Easter Egg Hunt is they get the chance to meet the Easter Bunny. The kids were pretty excited to get their picture taken with him this year!
We got home from the Egg Hunt and finished getting ready to go on our day trip to the desert. This year we were excited to have Grandpa Rod and Grandma JoAnn, Eric, Jenna, Maddie, Tripp and Krew join us for the day. Our kids always get so excited to spend the day with family.
After a several hour drive in the truck, we finally made it to where we could stop and unload the four wheelers to begin our trek for the day. Trey and McKenna shared our four-wheeler, JoAnn had Maddie and Allyson with her, and Eric and Jenna took Tripp, Krew, and Lottie squished between them. It made for a perfect way to get around for the day!
Our first stop was to hike to the hide out of Butch Cassidy. This was pretty cool to see, it is amazing his name still remains visible on this rock after all these years.
Our next stop was somewhere we could rest and eat lunch. The big sand hills were packed with motorcycles and four wheelers, so we found a nice spot that gave the kids plenty of room to play in the rocks, sand, and climb ledges.
It wasn't long before McKenna and Trey took off to see how high they could climb. They did pretty good, it made me a little nervous watching them get so close to the edge.
After lunch, the kids were anxiously awaiting the Easter gifts from Grandma. They were so excited for new shirts and candy. After the gifts were open, Grandpa took the razor and tried taking the kids up the sand hills. Poor Ally was a nervous wreck, Grandpa kept going up and riding back down. Grandpa did this several times, before she said she wanted out. Grandma JoAnn had Krew on her four wheeler and he couldn't hardly stand it, until he got his turn in the razor with Grandpa.
Once lunch was cleaned up and the kids were rested, we loaded up and were ready to go again. We took the four wheelers and Jeremy's truck out a ways to the rim of the desert. We had high hopes of seeing big horn sheep, but with all the little ones, it was pretty hard to get to close to the edge for too long to spot any movement. We did have a good ride and saw a lot of country. Rod was the only that didn't tag along with us for this journey, he unloaded his horse and did his own thing for the afternoon.
Jeremy and McKenna took off to see part of the rim that we didn't get to on our ride. In the meantime, we took all the kids to a side hill and let them roll eggs. It was pretty rocky country, so they didn't roll as good as they wanted. Luckily, they didn't care, it was just fun as much fun to throw them down the hill as it was to roll them. I was glad I brought bubbles for the kids in Jeremy's truck. We were stuck waiting for McKenna and Jeremy, so the bubbles made it a fun time killer. It was perfect too because the wind was blowing in all directions, so they had fun following the wind and see the amount of bubbles they could get to come out of their wand.
The sun was starting to set, so we knew we needed to head back to the truck. We drove for quite a while before we made it back to the corrals to where we initially started. The sun was setting and there was very little wind, so it was very dusty behind the four wheelers.
I love this picture that Jen took of Tripp and Lottie, it pretty much summed up the entire day of dust, dirt, and filth, but all that dust was worth the fun. I honestly cannot get over how good the kids were all day. I honestly don't think any one of them cried, they were so patient and put up with a lot of dirt and wind.
And what a great way to end the day, but with a basket full of goodies. We ended up being so busy and having too much fun, that the hunt for baskets was a great way to close the day!
I am so glad we were able to spend the day with the Eric, Jenna, and their family as well as Grandpa Rod and Gramdma JoAnn. It was so fun, that we all want to do it again!
