Today was the annual GVES May Day!! Today's May Day performances that the elementary school students performed were wonderful. It just happened that this year's theme was based on Disney movies. Each class had picked out theme songs from well known Disney movies.
It was a bittersweet moment for me today as it was Trey's last May Day. As sad as it is to know that he is old enough to be leaving the elementary school, I know deep down he is excited to be graduating the 5th Grade and moving on to bigger and better things.
Trey was quite excited for his year's May Day performance. It was a dance that the 5th Grade class has been working on since the first of March. His class performed to the song, "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from the Disney movie Mulan. The 5th Graders did an excellent job and from the smiles on their faces, you could tell they loved every minute of it!
Beside each class performing, the entire school sang several songs.
They sang "I'll Never Grow Up!" and "That's What Friends are For".
Allyson and her 1st Grade class danced to the song "Friend Like Me" from the Disney movie Aladdin. Ally was so excited to wear her outfit that made her look like the princess Jasmine. Her dance partner was Waylon Sorensen. She danced so good and looked so cute. I love that little toothless smile of her!
Ally and two of her very best friends, Gratia Mellor and Bryler Blackburn. These girls when together are quite the crew, never a dull moment with these three.
Another reason that this was a memorable May Day was the fact the Mr. Grant Hansen was recognized for his 39 years of being in education. The students and audience all sang the chorus of "Hakuna Matata" while Mr. Jodi Allred and Mrs. Loreen Sorensen sang the lyrics, but the words were changed to talk about Mr. Hansen's retirement. It was pretty funny and what a great way to send Mr. Hansen off into his retirement.
As much as I love May Day, it is just a sign to me that school is almost through. It truly amazing to me that the school year has flown by so fast. Hello Summer, Goodbye School and Homework!
