America On Stage Dance Competition

Today's dance competition was so fun and so rewarding.  All the hard work and long practices, definitely paid off for McKenna and her competition team, the Diamonds.

The day started off with McKenna and her good friend Tiandra Taylor, performing their duet.  They both decided months ago that they wanted to dance together, so between the two of them they picked out a song and made up a great dance that they wanted to perform at the competition.  However, about 10 days before the final competition, they both decided that they wanted to dance to something more up beat and exciting than what they had initially choreographed.

So with the days of the competition drawing closer, they spend a few long nights making up and perfecting a new dance.  In fact, the ride over to Richfield, they were changing a few last minute hand movements that would improve the look of the show.

Their hard work paid off, they received 1st place in their age division for the category of Novice Jazz Duet.  This is the first time either of them had done anything like this before, so they were both really proud and excited over their great performance.  Each of them was awarded a trophy

Later that night, McKenna and the other girls on the Diamond competition team performed their other two dances.

The first was their Jazz performance to a remix music called 'Back In Time'.  This by far was McKenna favorite dance, I would have to say that I don't blame her.  You could see on each of the girl's faces that they love to move to this music.  All of the girls just beamed!  Their orange costumes, with feathers and flare just added to the dance.

The second dance that the Diamonds performed was to the music 'Skyscraper'.  This dance has all the girls wearing blue except for Alison Embley who is wearing white.  The moral of the dance is about bullying.  In the very beginning, Allison is being brought down by the other girls and throughout the song she is being mocked, but as the dance progresses, the girls all come together.  In the picture above, you can see all the girls come together as Alison walks up their stairway and once she reaches the top she entrust her friends to catch her.  It is a beautiful message that can bring tears to ones eyes.
McKenna is the girl on the far left, she holds Allison's legs as she falls.  Do you see her? She is like BOO-YAH! She is going dowwwwn! gurl, you cray.  (last paragraph journal by McKenna)

Diamonds 1st place for both routines and Overall Top Score for both routines!
Meaning out of all the dances in their division they had the highest score!!!

The Diamond Competition Team consists of Alexis Hansen, Gracey Christenson, Sydney Peterson, Brinley Bown, Adelyn Overly, Abby Jensen, Alyssa Burrel, Lindzey Harding, Tiandra Taylor, Ashley Boore, Alison Embley, Kylee Keisel, Lauren Henry, McKenna. (Not pictured-Abigail Shumway)

Pictured above is the Dazzlers (grade 3rd thru 5th) and the Diamonds team.  They all did such an awesome job in today's competition.

What a rewarding day for McKenna.  It is so fun to see all her hard work and dedication pay off!  You are beautiful and such a natural!  Good Job!
