This is definitely one weekend that the kids have grown to love and look forward too all summer long. The long weekend in the mountains is hard to beat. This year's reunion was held at the Elkhorn Campground, everyone loves it up here, there are lots of places for them to ride horses, ride ATVs, hikes, camp and play. This year's attendance was remarkable, 97 out of 112 were in attendance.
This is the first year in a long time that we arrived to camp late on Thursday night. Yes, usually we are the first campers here on Thursday, but this year it was dark Thursday night when we arrived, so we didn't get any play time on Thursday. So for us, the play time all began on Friday. McKenna, Trey, and Jeremy did the all day horse ride while the little girls and I stayed back and played. The kids all had fun hiking, drawing, eating, playing games, etc.
The Ellett cousins took time to all the little girls hair. These girls loved their new hair do, in fact they kept it braided all weekend.
Part of our play time was hiking out on Tubb Flatt and around one of the little lakes there on the mountain. The kids love this every year.
Here are some of Ally's paintings that she worked on with Uncle Darcy. She wants to be an artist when she grows up, so she was in heaven painting this today.
The girls had a lot of fun making the Indian head dresses as their craft this year. Lottie of course loved every minute on it because of all the feathers. Every one's head dresses and headbands all turned out so cute!
Saturday at camp is usually the very busiest. Not only is it when the majority of family present, but that's when all the activities seem to take place. McKenna and I went home late Friday night so we could get McKenna to Manti, early Saturday morning, so we missed out of a bit of the fun. But luckily everyone stayed busy. Allyson went on the all day horse ride with dad and Trey. She rode Smoker and had a lot of fun. She said she got tired, but other than that she did a great job!
Sunday morning we got up, ate breakfast, and tried to fit in all the last minute four wheeling, hiking, playing that we could. Jeremy left early to take the horses back to Gunnison, so that left the kids and I several more hours to play. Anderson Family Reunion would not be the same if we were not the last to leave, so once again, that tradition was fitting.
It's crazy how within just a few hours how the weather changed on us. It was almost creepy how the clouds and fog just settled right down on us. With the clouds and fog brought a nice hail storm. We were stuck in the trailer for quite some time and boy did that get old. Luckily Grandpa Rod and Jeremy showed up to get us home.
Of course camp wouldn't be quite the same if the kids weren't completely wore out. These two were glad to finally get in the truck and head home. Lottie slept while we waited out the weather but Miss Ally was out as soon we headed for home.
