To tell you the truth, I can't believe that summer is winding down and the anticipation of school starting is starting settle in. Summer with these four has been super fun and very memorable. All four have been home pretty much all summer together and surprisingly they have gotten along really well. There were a few melt down moments when I would get a phone call or two or three at work trying to see if I could referee over the phone. But other than that, things were great. I admire each of them and the love that they have for each other.
This cute picture was taken on the first nights that McKenna and Trey had slept out in the tent. Allyson stayed one or two nights out there with them, but she decided she preferred sleeping on a cot in the front room or on the couch fit her sleeping needs lots better. I can truly say that McKenna and Trey slept in their own bed all summer probably two nights is all! Their entire summer was spent sleeping either in the camping trailer or in the tent! They would sneak treat and drinks out there and stay up and talk. They spent several nights with our portable DVD player and would have a movie marathon either in the tent or the trailer. And little Lottie, she slept in her bed all summer. The tent, trailer, or couch was not one bit enticing to her, she preferred her own bed!
This truly has been one of our craziest summers overall. I truly believe the older our kids get, the crazier our life seems to get. There were many days that our beds didn't get made, dinner wasn't ate together as a family, or if we did eat as a family it was after 10:00 at night, because that is when we were all finally in the house together. Late dinners meant that not all the dishes got done until morning and we were up at the break of dawn to start the cycle over again. It was either chasing dance practice, baseball & softball practice and games, scout camp, youth conference, young women's camp, family vacations, swimming lessons, play dates with friends, camping, holiday fun, riding horses, building a hay barn, seven parades, BBQs, singing lessons, tumbling, finishing landscaping, mowing lawns, riding bikes, trips to the river walk, pageant practice, going to the library, treats from GIC, church, work, babysitters, sleepover with cousins, team roping, drive up movie, Lava Hot Springs, school shopping, we were truly on the go all summer. Jeremy and I commented how we couldn't believe how it felt like I just had the oil changed in my car, how could it need to be done again. Well, when you consider where we had been all summer, we pretty much could say we lived in the car and I had the miles to prove it!
Regardless of the craziness, I wouldn't want it any other way. I love my life, I love this stage of life with my kids. Being a mom is wonderful and to see all that we can do is a family is truly very rewarding. So in the meantime, goodbye to summer and hello to school. Don't think with school starting I am kissing goodbye craziness, because with school brings on a different type of crazy, Hang on for lots of fun, memorable, crazy days, but this time it will be with more routine!
