Trey's Newest Talents

This week has been a big week for this young man.  He has started two new things in his life that he has never done before.  Going to middle school is a big thing and brings on big changes.

*6th Grade Tackle Football*
First, he decided he wanted to do tackle football this year.  He hasn't shown much interest in the years past to play flag football, so to go from playing no football to straight tackle is a huge move for this skinny guy.  He is super super excited, especially when he was able to bring home the pads and helmet.  He has dug in and learned the rules and the different plays.  He also has excelled to the point that he has earned the position as one of the quarterbacks on the team as well as one of the receivers.  Who knew he would love the game of football?  But he does and is looking forward to playing his first game in a few days.

*6th Grade Band -Trumpet*
Earlier this spring, Trey and I attended the 6th Grade Orientation as an introduction to middle school.  At this orientation, each of the teacher introduced themselves and talked about the different courses that would be taught.  Trey contemplated the option of band and after much thought, he decided he would try it this year.  So in preparation of school starting, the band teacher held two weeks of half hour classes to get the new students used to instruments.  He couldn't decide which instrument to play, so I took him to the trumpet class to see how he would like it.  A little nervous, he decided to take on the trumpet.  It's amazing how much it takes to make noise come out of this thing made of brass.  Trey has had to learn how to hold his lips just right in order for noise to come out of this thing rather than just blowing a lot of air.  I am super proud of him and his mind set to do new things.  He isn't afraid to dig in and at least try.

So band and football it is for this guy!  I am just glad he doesn't do them at the same time!
